toffee and wine - a perfect pair!

Posted by

Here at Holm Made Toffee headquarters we like to relax with a nice glass of wine and a few pieces of toffee. However, we generally just break out whatever wine we happen to have on hand.

But what wines go best with each of our flavors?

We decided to bring in a few guest bloggers to help us answer this question.

Up first we have Claire McCool - Wine Steward for Kennewick Yoke's and friend of Holm Made Toffee:

"Hello! My name is Claire McCool and I have had the delicious treat of Holm Made Toffee and I’m here to let you know what wines to pair with these yummies.

First, a little background on me. Growing up in Washington State, wine was always around. My parents drank it, people I knew worked with it, it was an attraction of my hometown, and I’d later find out, when you put good wine and good food together, you can not go wrong.

I began working in the wine industry as a summer intern doing events with Alexandria Nicole Cellars, and from there it just snowballed into a career. I’ve worked several sides of the industry including tasting room attendant, event coordinator, glass polisher, sales woman, and now in my current position as Wine Steward at Yokes Fresh Market in Kennewick WA.

When Randi approached me to taste the toffee and figure out some wine pairings, how could I say no?! She sent the samples and I was giddy at the prospect of figuring out which toffees go best with which wines. I received the original, sea salt, espresso and red pepper flavors.

To be honest, these toffees are the best I’ve tried and the biggest challenge for me was saving some of the toffee to taste wine with."

Claire's Pairings:

Original – Cabernet Sauvignon or Late Harvest Riesling

Sea Salt – Grenache, Pinot Noir, Rose’ of Sangiovese and floral white wines (Picpoul, Italian Pinot Grigio, etc)

Espresso – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab-Merlot blend

Red Pepper – Riesling and Merlot

Thanks so much for the tips Claire!
